Explanation: This is the spread punt that we use in punting situations. We use a silent count and let the center snap the ball after he sees that everyone is set and he is ready. We feel that this makes it harder for the opposing team to blitz and block our punts. We will also switch up our rabbits or head hunters between the 1 and 2 punt team positions. On the punt coverage, the 1's responsibility is outside contain, 3's and 4's are our lanes.

If fair catch is signaled, anticipate fumble.
If fair catch is given inside the 10 yard line, ignore the fair catch signal and prevent the ball from going into the end zone. Anticipate fumble.
Know your assignment.
If the ball is on the ground, down it. Make sure to down the ball until the official blows the whistle.
Don't let the ball bounce into the end zone.
Prevent the ball from bouncing back to you.
All players must be set for at least one second before the ball is snapped. The center will snap the ball when he is ready after the proper pause.
The Punt Coverage team cannot interfere with the fair catch. The receiver must be given an unmolested opportunity to catch the kick.
The Punt Coverage team cannot touch the ball before it hits the ground or before the receiver has a chance to catch the ball. The Punt Returner that 'signals' fair catch is the only one protected.
The Punt Coverage team must realize that when you down a punt, the ball is not dead until the official blows the whistle.
If the returner muffs the ball, after a fair catch signal, but catches it before being hit, he is still protected.
If the ball is muffed, contact may be made before he catches the ball. If the ball hits the ground, it is live. Protection for the Returner ends when he muffs or the ball its the ground.
A muffed ball cannot be advanced. Recover the ball without worrying about advancing it.
If the coverage team hits the ball first, it is not dead. The return team can still advance the ball.
All blocked punts may be advanced.
When counting your man, don't place your arm into the neutral
zone, this is illegal procedure.
