1 AND 3 STEP DROP PASSING SCHEME

Definition - The quick pass or 90 game is designed to take what the defense gives you. By throwing the ball quickly using timed routes, the offense can stretch the defense and take advantage of man coverage.

The Must Do's

1. Protect the passer - We use a zone scheme to protect our quarterback. The rationale we live by is simple. We have a left handed QB, therefore, we zone block to the left. The end man on the line of scrimmage away from the QB is blocked either by a down lineman (which is truly man protection) or by the tailback or by an outside receiver.

Examples:

2. Throw uncovered ( a receiver who has a defender 10 or more yards off of him) - If a receiver is uncovered by a defender throw to him immediately. If a receiver on the single receiver side is uncovered, throw immediately. If a receiver on the multiple receiver side is uncovered, only throw on 1st and 2nd down. Uncovered receivers are a first priority.

Uncovered Receivers:

3. Throw hot - In multiple receiver sets, we always designate a hot receiver and give him top priority. The hot receiver is only ignored for an uncovered receiver.

Hot Receivers:

4. Adjust to squat corners - If a corner squats or plays tough technique , throw the fade adjustment. Use the stop route as a line audible.

Squat Corners:
